Do we deserve this..ORR..?

Sky-high pewter pillars

But no sky

Only a big, ashy wall

On which a train might crawl

A walkway where people walk faster

Than us as we inch forward

Behind a truck and a bike and a bus

And a white car

And a blue car

And an auto rickshaw

On either side,

Construction debris

Broken concrete blocks

Cement dust

And piles of mud

Fallen bamboo sticks

Torn plastic sheets

And sack cloth

Brown water droplets

Protruding iron rods

Hanging wires

Numbers stencilled in black

on bleak columns

365 and counting

The number of days I travel this menial road

Unlike for lucky Robert Frost

It's the road most traveled.

Yet, day after day,

Mynas hopping out of little holes

Twigs in their beaks

Migrants in steel sheet houses

Mattresses splayed on mud flooring

A plant clambering out of the cracks in the wall

Fresh leaves burgeoning

Julian and John's guitars

Over the rapid honking of a cab driver,

All fighting for survival

Like silver linings in a cloud of smoke
